Bruins, Need a Bike? Here's How to Get One

This Sustainable Transportation Month, you might be considering biking as a sustainable way to get to campus. After all, it has many benefits for both the environment and your health, and UCLA offers a range of resources for cyclists including miles of bike lanes, over 3,500 bike parking spaces, and seven do-it-yourself bike repair stands.

But what if you don't already have a bike? We can help with that too, making it easier than you might think to get your own bike.

Earn-A-Bike Program

Our popular Earn-A-Bike program gives UCLA employees and graduate students the opportunity get a free $900 bicycle package in exchange for their parking permit. Participants must complete a mandatory orientation online and cancel or forfeit the right to a parking permit for two years. More information about eligibility requirements and how to register can be found on the Earn-A-Bike page.

Local Bike Shops

When shopping for a bike, it's preferable to do so in-person so you can find one that's the right size. Local bike shops can talk you through your purchase to make sure it's the right fit and help you make any adjustments. A good place to start are the local bike shops we've partnered with to provide Bruins discounts on parts, accessories, and repair services.

UC E-Bike Purchase Program

If you need a little help on uphill climbs or a break from pedaling, an e-bike may be for you. Bruins are eligible for discounted pricing on multiple styles of e-bikes through the UC E-Bike Purchase Program. Four nationally recognized vendors offer affordable pricing, with discounts ranging from 15% to 60%, as well as the opportunity to purchase locally and get maintenance support.

Metro Bike Share

Don't need a bike of your own? Metro Bike Share is an affordable way to get around campus and connect with over 200 stations around LA. UCLA's docking stations are located on the main campus at Gateway Plaza, Perloff Hall, and Drake Stadium, as well as at Weyburn Terrace and University Village Apartments graduate student housing, and the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. Bikes can be unlocked with the Metro Bike Share app or with a TAP card, and students are eligible for discounted passes through the Reduced Fare program.
