For another consecutive year, the NAFA Fleet Management Association has named UCLA to their annual 100 Best Fleets list, honoring peak-performing public and commercial fleet operations in the Americas.
UCLA is one of only four universities to earn a spot on the 2024 list. Honorees include small and large municipalities, public education, government entities, corporations, businesses, utility companies, and other fleets across North, Central, and South America. To be named one of the best operations by the association, fleet services get evaluated on performance, service turnaround time, the use of technology, and other categories, including resource stewardship. Demonstrating a concern for the environment is an area where UCLA’s fleet is golden.
The university fleet operation has always taken a proactive approach to sustainability. UCLA boasts the largest battery-electric fleet among North American universities, actively phasing out gas-powered vehicles for better clean fuel alternatives. Innovative vehicle builds, such as mini refuse trucks with Lithium-Ion batteries, exemplify a dedication to environmental responsibility.
Landing on the 2024 list was additionally due to technology upgrades and other innovations. These include cutting-edge telematics that measure utilization, safety, and vehicle health. A QR code-based system has also streamlined vehicle repairs and preventative maintenance scheduling.
UCLA’s fleet keeps the campus moving, providing an essential service. The inventory of close to a thousand vehicles supports the university’s education, research, and public service efforts by providing efficient, cost-effective, quality vehicles to meet the varying needs of UCLA’s staff, faculty, and students 365 days a year. University-owned vehicles transport critical patients to medical centers, enable academics to travel offsite to conduct research, and support students engaged in extracurricular activities outside the campus.
