A Bruin’s Guide to Bicycling Organizations in L.A.

CicLAvia volunteers along Westwood Blvd at the open streets event on April 26 in West LA.

There are several non-profits, clubs, co-ops, and shops committed to supporting cycling in Los Angeles. These organizations are great for finding fellow riders, gaining knowledge and improving skills, discovering new routes, joining events, and advocating for safe streets. With one of the biggest benefits of biking being the social connection, check out the following L.A.-based organizations to get involved with.

BikeLA

A nonprofit organization dedicated to working on making all communities in L.A. County healthy, safe, and fun places to ride a bike through advocacy, education, and outreach.

CicLAvia

This nonprofit initiative hosts open streets events throughout Los Angeles County, closing roads off to car traffic and opening them for people to bike, walk, run, skate, scoot, and roll.

Walk ‘n Rollers

An active transportation advocacy nonprofit based in Culver City focused on bicycle and pedestrian safety education through workshops and other activities like festivals, marketplaces, and community walks and rides.

Sawtelle Bikes

This group hosts all-skill-level community rides in the area each month, providing great meet-up opportunities.

Just Ride Los Angeles

All are welcome to the DTLA-based cycling shop's free and easy-to-follow bicycle clinics and workshops. Learn from professionals how to fix flats, proper gear shifting, safety measures, and more. They also hold shop rides.

Metro Bike Share

LA Metro and the City of LA’s rentable fleet of bicycles (including electric ones) available on campus, in Westwood Village, and elsewhere on the Westside, as well as in Downtown LA, Central LA, Hollywood, and North Hollywood hosts community rides, providing a fun way to explore and meet people.

L.A. also has many bike cooperatives, also known as bike kitchens, or community bicycle shops, that function as another space for two-wheeled travelers. Beyond this list, find other bicycle clubs through the City of Los Angeles Bicycle Advisory Committee Bicycle Clubs resource list.
