On Tuesday, April 22, L.A. transportation providers are making it easier for Bruins to embrace environmentally-friendly commuting alternatives that contribute to a more sustainable future. LA Metro, Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, LADOT Transit, and Metrolink will all offer free rides in honor of Earth Day.
Shifting from a car to public transportation can reduce up to 2.2 tons of carbon emissions annually per individual, according to the United Nations. And according to research from the University of Oxford, choosing a bike over a car just once a day can reduce the average person’s transportation-related emissions by 67%.
Ride free on LA Metro, buses, trains, bike-share, and Metro Micro on Earth Day to mitigate the effects of climate change and contribute to a more resilient Los Angeles.
To redeem your free 30-minute ride on Metro Bike Share, select "1-Ride" at any Metro Bike Share kiosk, online, or in the Metro Bike Share app and use code 042225. The code may be used multiple times throughout the day!

This Earth Day, on Tuesday, April 22, Metrolink invites you to ride for free, all day, on all train lines, including Arrow service. Whether you're commuting, exploring, or simply curious about the train, it's the perfect chance to leave your car behind and experience a relaxing, traffic-free way to get around Southern California.
SoCal's commuter rail system is also offering an exclusive opportunity to UCLA faculty and staff who take a Metrolink trip on Earth Day to enter to win a free 5-Day Flex Pass! To participate in the raffle, riders must take a selfie onboard during their Earth Day trip and email it to UCLA Transportation by noon on Wednesday, April 23. Metrolink will randomly select a winner from all participating partners.
LADOT Transit is recognizing Earth Day too on Tuesday, April 22 by offering free trips to all its riders. This includes DASH, CommuterExpress, and LAnow services. The code to ride LAnow for free on Earth Day is EARTH2025. Additionally, the Via Marisol Connector and the Park La Brea Connector services as well as the Cityride Dial-a-Ride vans, will also offer free rides.
