While an uncertain pandemic progressed into another year, UCLA remained steadfast in its commitment to helping employees get where they needed to be to get the job done. And for that, the university has been designated one of 2022's Best Workplaces for Commuters.
UCLA is among a select group of workplaces across the United States to meet a national standard of excellence for providing exceptional commuter benefits. The Best Workplaces for Commuters program is managed by the Center for Urban Transportation Research at the University of South Florida with support from the Florida Department of Transportation.
During the first half of 2021, while the campus remained close, efforts were made to accommodate frontline and essential workers by offering unlimited cross-parking. Telecommuting resources were provided to employees working from home as well.
UCLA Transportation was instrumental in normalizing telecommuting at the university, reimagining it as UCLA FlexWork, and establishing policy elements that will remain standard practice across departments for years to come.
When UCLA resumed normal operations and welcomed students back for in-person instruction in the fall, with many employees also returning to their offices in Westwood, special pricing was offered on already discounted transit passes for the local and commuter lines that serve the campus.
Other ongoing commuter offerings at UCLA are lower-cost carpool parking permits, bicycling resources, and the Bruin Commuter Club. This program offers annual monetary incentives, guaranteed rides home, and more.
UCLA strives to offer transportation choices that save time, money, and stress, supporting the commuting needs of one of the university's greatest assets — its employees.
