Celebrate Clean Air Day on October 1

CA Clean Air Day with Bruin Bus

Everyone is affected by air pollution, but together we Bruins can make a difference.

Wednesday, Oct. 1, is an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to make a personal promise to pledge to act on behalf of the air we all share – the 8th annual California Clean Air Day. A project of the Coalition for Clean Air, the statewide effort for clearer, bluer skies coincides with UCLA’s celebration of alternatives to driving alone: Sustainable Transportation Month, also in October.

Both events center on taking a pledge to try one action during October that will have a positive impact. One of the best ways to help everyone breathe easier is by replacing a solo car trip with a walk, bike ride, using public transit, or carpooling.

Transportation is the largest source of air pollution in California, accounting for 50% of the state's total. Tailpipe emissions contribute to climate change and pose a danger to people’s health and the health of the environment. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of CO2 per year. Join Californians and your fellow Bruins in cutting off harmful air pollutants. Several transportation providers are here to help!
