Say hello to route upgrades from the Westside’s friendly neighborhood transit line for Santa Monica, UCLA, and other areas of greater Los Angeles. Starting Sunday, August 9, changes will go into effect for Routes 1, 2, 8, 18, and Rapid 12. Riders will enjoy easier and more convenient trips powered by Brighter Blue.

Big Blue Bus will no longer serve Hilgard Terminal. Instead, buses will serve three campus transit hubs:

• Charles E. Young Drive/Parking Structure 2 for travel to the westside (served by Routes 1, 2, and 18)

Located in the heart of campus, this hub will be served by Big Blue Bus seven days a week, all day, for more consistent weekday and weekend service.  

Service on these routes is expanding, with trips operating earlier in the morning and later into the evening, to better support campus travel needs. 

Riders traveling from campus to the Westside will benefit from reduced wait times, with buses departing approximately every 6-10 minutes. 

• Gateway Plaza for connections to the Metro Rail E Line (served by Routes 8 and Rapid 12)

Riders will have more frequent and flexible transfer options with Route 8 and Rapid 12 service to the Westwood/Rancho Park Metro Rail E Line Station departing every 8–10 minutes. 

• Macgowan Hall Terminal for travel to Sawtelle, Palms, and Culver City (served by Route 17)

All Big Blue Bus trips to and from UCLA will now serve the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Medical Plaza, providing more direct access for medical staff, patients, and visitors.

These service changes are designed to improve connectivity, accessibility, and convenience for students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
