UCLA Partners with Bird and Veo to Offer Shared Micromobility Services on Campus

As part of the campus shared mobility strategy, UCLA is continuing its service agreement with Bird to supply electric scooters to the campus community, as well as signing a new service agreement with Veo to provide electric bikes. UCLA recognizes the importance of offering a variety of transportation options that meet the needs of all Bruins.

After a competitive bidding procurement process, Bird and Veo were selected as authorized vendors. These contractual arrangements will enable continued oversight over how these devices operate on campus, and will help ensure the safety of both riders and pedestrians. Bird continues to operate on campus while Veo will launch on campus October 11, 2024.

A major goal of the university is to provide sustainable transportation options that are convenient, affordable, and accessible. UCLA Transportation offers an array of alternatives to driving alone which contribute to better air quality and less traffic congestion.

Continuing infrastructure updates are another ongoing effort to help students, staff, and faculty get to, from, and around campus. UCLA Transportation and UCLA Facilities Management continue to work together on roadway improvements, including expanding protected bike lanes on university grounds, such as the recently completed Westholme Avenue bike lane. Designated parking areas for shared micromobility devices are added throughout campus on an ongoing basis as well.

With Bruins able to access these authorized micromobility devices, UCLA Transportation continues to promote e-scooter and e-bike safety through its campus safety campaigns. Bird and Veo will geofence dismount zones within their apps, and provide helmets and demonstrate how to ride and park safely at campus events.

To report improperly parked shared micromobility devices:

  • For Bird e-scooters: send an email to ucla311@bird.co with the e-scooter ID number, approximate location, and photo.
  • For Veo e-bikes: send an email to uclaops@veoride.com with the e-bike ID number, approximate location, and photo.
