May is National Bike Month, and we’re celebrating! UCLA Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of biking — and encourage Bruins to give biking a try.
UCLA Bike Month will look a little different this year, but biking keeps on rolling as a healthy, affordable, sustainable, and fun way to get around. We hope to move UCLA Bike Week events back on campus in the fall, to coincide with World Car Free Day.
In these challenging times, bikes are now more essential than ever, providing transportation, enjoyment, and fitness. Driving has dropped, resulting in a bump in biking. Biking is good for you and the planet, keeping the mind and body well and improving air quality. Bike shops are even recognized as essential businesses.
This year, we are focusing on any type of riding. The where and there may not necessarily be to campus. Whether it’s for commuting, going on an essential trip, or through the neighborhood for exercise, get out there safely and start pedaling! Spring is a great time to tune up your bike.
Bruins are encouraged to think beyond biking to UCLA for work or school, and consider how to integrate biking into other aspects of daily life.
Join us remotely as we celebrate UCLA Bike Month all May! Follow along on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as we share biking tips and show you how to ride safely. Throughout the month, we’ll be hosting weekly social media contests with prizes including gift cards and bike accessories! Keep up with us and check back regularly for more chances to win.
Remember to observe Safer at Home guidelines and practice physical distancing before hopping on the bike saddle and going the distance for UCLA Bike Month!
