UCLA's bike share program for graduate students living in campus housing and nearby university residences will cease operations on March 28. Since the bike share equipment is approaching the end of its useful life, in the best interest of safety, the program will be ending. Designed with tamperproof parts, properly maintaining the bikes is near impossible. UCLA Transportation prioritizes the safety of its community members, and due to these operational restraints, the program is being discontinued.
An affordable alternative currently avaialble is Metro Bike Share. The bike share stations at Gateway Plaza and Perloff Hall, and in Westwood Village at Broxton/Weyburn and Glendon/Kinross, offer a cost-effective, healthy, and enjoyable way to keep Bruins moving on two wheels. Eligible UCLA students can enjoy discounted 30-day passes for $5/month or a 365-day pass for $50/year.
While we bid farewell to the Graduate Student Bike Rentals, there are still other resources to support bicycling at UCLA. UCLA Transportation also aims to reinstate its Earn-a-Bike program for the fall quarter.
Originally part of the Bruin Bike Share system, the equipment was repurposed as bike rentals at graduate student housing locations when that program was discontinued. The bikes are now set to be recycled.
