There's no getting around scooter safety at UCLA. Here are the rules for riding an electric scooter on campus.
Ride legally
A driver's license is required to operate an e-scooter in California.
Ride on the street
Stay off the sidewalk and walk your scooter through the crosswalk. Observe UCLA's dismount zones: Bruin Plaza, Bruin Walk, and the Parking Structure 8 corridor. Walk your wheels in these areas of campus. When riding in the street, obey traffic laws.
Park respectfully
Be mindful of where and how you park the scooter. When you end the ride, be considerate and park the scooter so it won't block the sidewalk, building entrances and exits, stairs, and ADA ramps. Maintain a clear path for everyone.
No tandem riding
One person per scooter – period. Do not carry anyone else on a ride. Tandem riding increases the chances of an accident. Keep yourself and your Bruin buddies safe. Having a helmet doesn't hurt either. Protect that noggin that got you into UCLA in the first place! A properly fitted helmet is the best way to prevent serious injuries in crashes.
Riding by these rules is critical; otherwise, you could get seriously hurt or hurt someone else. Also, motorized scooters must follow the same traffic rules as motor vehicles, and a moving violation could result in points on your driver's license affecting your driving privileges, in addition to a hefty fee that will hurt your wallet.
