License Plate Recognition at Campus Medical Parking Facilities

UCLA uses license plate recognition technology at all campus medical facilities. This system is designed to reduce tailgating, gate tampering, and other attempts to avoid payment. Violations may result in fines, loss of parking privileges, or other actions permitted under California Vehicle Code 21113(a).

It also supports a safer, more efficient parking experience by protecting campus property and ensuring fair use of medical parking resources. The process applies to all visitors, patients, and campus community members who park in UCLA medical facilities.

How the System Works

  • Entry: Press the button at the gate to receive a ticket. Your ticket links your license plate to your payment method.
  • Payment: Bring your ticket to any pay station and complete payment before returning to your vehicle.
  • Exit: As you approach the gate, the system reads your license plate and opens automatically once payment is verified.

What to Keep in Mind

  • Always take a ticket when entering a medical parking facility.
  • After your appointment or visit, pay at the nearest pay station before returning to your vehicle.
  • Do not tailgate or tamper with gates; doing so may result in a violation.
  • Allow extra time when exiting, especially during peak hours, as each vehicle is verified.
  • If you experience issues at a gate or pay station, press the intercom button for immediate assistance.
  • Regulations for UCLA staff and faculty permit holders who cross‑park for medical appointments remain unchanged.
