The International Parking & Mobility Institute (IPMI) recognized UCLA Transportation with a 2022 Award of Merit in the Marketing & Communications, Public Sector category for the university’s annual Sustainable Transportation Month campaign. IPMI Awards of Excellence honor outstanding programs that exemplify creativity and a commitment to mobility and sustainability, selecting winners based on innovation, originality, benefits, and results.
National Rideshare Month was turned into Sustainable Transportation Month at UCLA to encompass every commute option contributing to a better tomorrow. The multifaceted campaign featured print and outdoor advertisements, email communications, and blog and social posts — plus outreach activities, including the Sustainable Transportation Month Fair, which drew hundreds of attendees.
Running with the theme of “commuting with confidence,” the campaign addressed health and safety concerns while emphasizing confidence in going with the more affordable, less stressful yet convenient and efficient transportation choice that isn’t just good for Bruins but also benefits the environment.
Sustainable Transportation Month additionally serves as a vehicle to showcase the department’s services and programs: incentives to walk or bike, subsidized public transit passes, and discounted carpool parking permits.
Combined, the communications efforts, carried out over the entire month, led to the collection of close to 1,400 pledges from faculty, staff, and students to forgo driving alone and try a greener ride. On UCLA Transportation’s social networking accounts —Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram—there was also an impressive total of 65,000 impressions.
